Venturer includes publishing options that help you control how introductory content appears throughout your Joomla website. These settings allow you to adjust blog introduction lengths and add descriptive text to several built-in Joomla pages without modifying template files.
This tutorial explains the available Publishing settings and how to configure them for your website.
Step 1: Open the Publishing Settings
- Log in to your Joomla administrator area.
- Navigate to System > Site Template Styles.
- Click your Venturer template style to open its configuration.
- Select the Publishing tab.
The Publishing tab contains the Blog Introduction Limit setting and several optional fields for introductory text on selected Joomla pages.
Step 2: Configure the Blog Introduction Limit
The Blog Introduction Limit setting controls the maximum length of introductory text displayed by Venturer's supported blog layouts.
The default value is 220, and the available setting ranges from 50 to 1,000 in increments of 10.
- Locate the Blog Introduction Limit field.
- Enter or select your preferred value.
- Click Save to apply the change.
- Open a blog or category page on your website to review the results.
A shorter introduction can create a more compact article listing, while a longer introduction allows visitors to read more before opening the full article.
Note: This setting affects the introduction text generated by Venturer's supported layouts. It does not change the original article content stored in Joomla.
Step 3: Configure the Featured Articles Introduction
The Featured Introduction field allows you to add introductory content to the featured articles view.
This is useful when your featured articles page serves as a homepage or a collection of selected content.
- Locate the Featured Introduction field.
- Enter a short introduction describing the featured content.
- Save your changes.
- Open your featured articles page to review the introduction.
For example, a travel website might introduce its featured articles as a selection of destinations, experiences, and travel stories.
Step 4: Configure the Tag Directory Introduction
The Tag Directory Introduction field provides introductory text for Venturer's supported tag directory view.
Tags help visitors discover articles and other content grouped by common subjects.
You can use this introduction to explain how your website organizes content through tags and encourage visitors to explore related topics.
Enter your preferred text in the field and save your changes.
Step 5: Configure the Archive Introduction
The Archive Introduction field allows you to add descriptive text to the archived articles view.
Joomla's archive feature provides access to content that has been archived rather than permanently removed.
You might use this introduction to explain what visitors can expect to find in your archives or how older content is organized.
Enter your introduction and save the template settings.
Step 6: Configure the Login Introduction
The Login Introduction field provides introductory content for Venturer's supported Joomla login view.
This can help visitors understand why they may need to sign in or what features are available to registered users.
For example, you could provide a brief welcome message or explain that signing in gives members access to additional website features.
Keep the message concise so that the login form remains easy to locate and use.
Step 7: Configure the Registration Introduction
The Registration Introduction field allows you to add introductory content to the Joomla user registration view.
This is useful for explaining the benefits of creating an account or providing brief instructions before visitors complete the registration form.
For example, you might explain what registered members can access or what information is required during registration.
Enter your text and save the template settings.
Step 8: Configure the Search Introduction
The Search Introduction field provides introductory content for Venturer's supported search view.
You can use this field to explain how visitors can search your website or what types of content are available through search.
A short introduction is generally sufficient, particularly when the search form is already prominently displayed.
Step 9: Preview Your Changes
After configuring the Publishing settings, open the relevant pages on your website to review their appearance.
Check that:
- Blog introduction lengths work well with your article layouts.
- Introductory text appears on the intended Joomla views.
- Introductions are concise and complement the main page content.
- Text remains readable on desktop and mobile screens.
If necessary, return to the Publishing tab to revise your settings.
Additional Considerations
The introduction fields are optional. You do not need to fill in every field to use Venturer.
Only configure introductions for the Joomla views your website uses. For example, if visitor registration is disabled, you may not need a registration introduction.
These settings are part of the Venturer template style. If you use multiple template styles, review the Publishing settings for each style as needed.
Troubleshooting
My introduction text isn't appearing
Confirm that you entered the text in the correct field and saved the template settings. Also verify that you're viewing the corresponding Joomla page and that the page uses the intended Venturer template style.
Changing the blog introduction limit has no effect
Make sure you're viewing a blog layout supported by Venturer's introduction limit setting. The option does not change the content of individual articles.
The introduction appears on one page but not another
Each introduction field is associated with a particular Joomla view. The text will not automatically appear on unrelated page types.
