Installing a GeJay Media template is straightforward using Joomla's built-in extension installer. This guide walks you through downloading your template package, installing it, and making it the default design for your website.
These instructions apply to GeJay Media commercial templates designed for Joomla 6.
Before You Begin
Make sure you have:
- A working Joomla 6 website with administrator access.
- An active GeJay Media membership with access to your purchased template.
- A recent backup of your website, particularly if you're changing the template on an existing site.
Step 1: Download Your Template
Your template installation package is available through your GeJay Media account.
- Log in to the GeJay Media website.
- Navigate to My Memberships.
- Click the linked name of the template you purchased.
- Locate the ZIP package and download it to your computer.
Important: Do not extract the ZIP file. Joomla installs the template directly from the downloaded package.
Step 2: Sign In to Joomla
Open your Joomla administrator area, typically located at:
https://yourwebsite.com/administrator
Sign in using an account with permission to install extensions and manage templates.
Step 3: Install Your Template
- From the Joomla administrator menu, select System.
- Under Install, select Extensions.
- Locate the Upload Package File installation area.
- Drag your downloaded template ZIP file into the upload area, or browse your computer to select it.
- Wait for Joomla to upload and install the package.
- Confirm that Joomla displays a successful installation message.
Your GeJay Media template is now installed and available for use.
Note: Installing a template does not automatically make it the active template on your website.
Step 4: Set Your Template as Default
To activate your newly installed template:
- Return to System in the Joomla administrator menu.
- Under Templates, select Site Template Styles.
- Locate your installed GeJay Media template in the list.
- Click the star in the Default column beside the template style.
Joomla will mark the selected template style as the default for your website.
If you have multiple template styles or menu-specific assignments, verify that the appropriate style is being used for the pages you want to change.
Step 5: Verify Your Installation
Open your website's frontend in a new browser tab.
Your new template should now be active.
Depending on your existing Joomla content, menus, and modules, the website may look different from the GeJay Media demonstration site. This is expected.
The template provides the design and layout framework, but it does not automatically install demonstration articles, images, menus, or module content.

Troubleshooting
The template doesn't appear in Site Template Styles
Confirm that Joomla reported a successful installation and that you uploaded the correct template package.
The template installed, but my website hasn't changed
Check that the template style is set as the site default. Also verify whether individual menu items have been assigned to another template style.
My website doesn't look like the demonstration site
The demonstration site includes configured content, modules, menus, and images that are not included with the template installation package. Follow the template-specific tutorials to configure your website.
